Larry Smith grew up in West Greenville and is a lifelong resident of South Carolina. His uncle owned several social clubs in the West Greenville community, which afforded Smith the opportunity to meet several notorious figures from the 1970s. Smith owned and ran Larry’s Wheel & Rim on one of Greenville County’s busiest roads for decades. After retiring, he wrote From One New Moon to Another, a short memoir based on a Native American proverb that has served as a guide for him:
Don’t judge a man until you have walked a mile in his moccasins from one new moon until the next new moon.
If you’re afraid to tell the truth because of fear, you’re not much of a man or a woman.
