Scott McAuley

Scott McAuley was in his early teens when a murderer killed his uncle Rufus and cousin Frank Looper. Despite his youth, he felt almost immediately uncomfortable with Charles Wakefield, Jr.’s conviction.

McAuley lives in Greenville, South Carolina with his wife, not far from the grandparents he shared with his cousin Frank.

While McAuley hasn’t been as public as his mother and sister in his advocacy for Wakefield, McAuley remains adamant that he believes in Wakefield’s innocence. He said of Wakefield, “I don’t think I’ve ever met a more gentle man.”

I don’t think any of us ever really bought the official line of the police. What’s really a shame is that Wakefield…I think he was a convenient patsy. You know, it ruined his life. It didn’t just ruin a lot of lives in our family. It ruined a whole other family’s lives.
